ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Some employees say two of the best known businessmen in the St. Louis area are having trouble paying their bills on time.

Former alderman Michael and Steven Roberts own hotels, television stations and real estate across the country.

But in the past year, at least a dozen local hotel workers have complained they haven’t been paid. And it’s not just employees. Bank of America says the Roberts brothers owe it money too and is suing them for $34 million.

Mesha Ballou, who works at the Roberts’ Clarion Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, says they owe her $1,500. She started working for the company as an auditor on February 22, but still hasn’t been paid.

“It’s hard everywhere. I can’t keep coming up there and working those long-hour shifts and not receiving any kind of payment,” said Ballou.

News 4 tried contacting President Steven Roberts for answers, but the calls were not returned. In fact, the Roberts have never returned inquiries about the problem. Ballou said she got the same response.
