MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. (KMOV) – A suspect is in custody after he allegedly struck a police officer during a traffic stop in Maryland Heights Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities say a Maryland Heights police officer was struck by the suspect’s vehicle as he fled from a traffic stop near the intersection of Glennoble Drive and Roth Hill Drive. The officer was questioning the 21-year-old driver about a possible drug violation when he then accelerated backwards striking the officer and knocking him to the ground.
The officer fired one shot at the vehicle’s front tire after being hit, according to authorities. The driver then struck the officer’s vehicle and fled the scene. The officer was taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The suspect was eventually apprehended and taken in to custody after his vehicle was disabled. A large quantity of drugs was found at the scene.
