ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis County police are investigating after an officer shot and killed a 15-year-old boy in north St. Louis County late Tuesday.
According to authorities, police responded to the 100 block of Glen Garry in the Glasgow Village neighborhood around 10:15 p.m. after an officer reported hearing gunshots.
When officers arrived, they saw three teenage boys and noticed one had some sort of weapon. Police said one of the officer approached the group and identified himself as a police officer.
Authorities said one of the teens, identified as Lavon Peete, reportedly turned and pointed a sawed-off rifle at the officer. The officer shot and killed him.
According to reports, investigators later found empty rifle shells on the ground near Peete. Additional shells were found in his pockets, police said.
Peete’s mother, Donita Peete, said her son was visiting a cousin in the neighborhood when the shooting occurred.
Authorities said two other teens who ran from the scene are being sought by police for questioning.
The officer who shot the teen is a veteran officer and has been placed on administrative leave.
