ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A Pine Lawn family breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday after a 5-year-old boy was found safe.
Pine Lawn Police and surrounding departments spent part of Tuesday evening searching for Marquis Hayes. He was later found safe at his father’s house in St. Louis.
Authorities said Hayes’ grandmother was watching the boy in Pine Lawn and assumed he was playing outside. Marquis had wandered down to the street corner when his father drove by and saw him standing there alone. The father picked him up and took him to his house.
The grandmother reported the boy missing, which set off a frantic search. Eventually police got in touch with the father and realized he was safe at home.
Pine Lawn Police Chief Rickey Collins says it was a perfect example of why parents and guardians need to know where their kids are at all times.
