IMPERIAL, Missouri (KMOV.com) – A suspect is in custody after he allegedly robbed a woman outside her home in Imperial on Saturday.
Jeffery Smith, 18, was charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.
Police said a 37-year-old woman had just arrived to her house in the 5200 block of Lakewood Landing when she was approached by two men on foot.
Authorities said one of them, who was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, struck the woman with the pistol and demanded her money and keys. The men then forced to the victim into the trunk of her vehicle and drove away.
Deputies said the victim eventually escaped from the trunk and called authorities. She did not suffer any serious injuries, according to deputies.
Authorities said officers then spotted the victims’ vehicle and began pursuing it. The chase ended on the Poplar Street Bridge after authorities disabled the vehicle.
Smith, who was driving, was taken into custody. The whereabouts of the second suspect are still unknown.
Smith remains at the Jefferson County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
