Stairway collapse injures first responders near downtown

ST. LOUIS -- Three St. Louis Fire Department employees are being treated for injuries after a stairway collapsed near downtown St. Louis on Tuesday.

A firefighter and two paramedics were called to a building that houses a Jackson Hewitt Tax Service office for a report of a man down. A man was found dead on a second-floor porch at the rear of the building, located in the 4100 block of North Grand.

The firefighter and paramedics were trying to remove the body when an exterior stairway collapsed. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officials said their injuries are considered minor.
