(KMOV) -- Police say a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 44 in south St. Louis Sunday night.
According to police, the accident happened near the Grand Boulevard exit. The driver who hit the man told authorities he saw the victim lying in the roadway, but was unable to swerve in time.
The eastbound lanes of I-44 were shut down while emergency crews were on the scene. All traffic was diverted onto Vandeventer.
All lanes on I-44 have reopened. It is not known why the man was lying on the interstate.
