FENTON, Mo. (KMOV) -- More than 300 production workers in Fenton were dealt a major blow this week when their employer announced it was scaling back operations.
Minnesota-based ATK announced its plans to lay off 325 workers at the company's Fenton facility on Biltmore Drive. The layoffs will take effect over the next two to three months.
A statement released by the company's corporate spokesperson said the move was intended to allow ATK to "efficiently meet business needs."
ATK spokesperson Jason Nash said 20-30 workers who belong to a design and support team will remain at the Fenton facility.
ATK also announced the permanent closure of its Onalaska, Wisconsin location, which employs 130 workers.
ATK makes gear and accessories for law enforcement and the military. It took over the Fenton facility in 2009 from Eagle Industries. Since then, the Fenton location has belonged to the company's Sporting Group Division. The Sporting Group Division has 10 locations across the country, Nash said.
