MASCOUTAH, Illinois (KMOV.com) -- A grandfather and grandson were killed on Wednesday after their vehicle was hit by a driver who ran a red light in Mascoutah.
According to authorities, the accident happened near the intersection of Route 161 and Route 4 around 12:30 p.m. in Mascoutah, Illinois.
Joseph A. Casson, 22, and his passenger David E. Casson Sr., 80, were traveling eastbound on Route 161.
As they entered the Route 4 intersection, a witness said a southbound vehicle driven by Tammy L. Small, 35, ran a red light and crashed into their vehicle. The impact sent both vehicles into a light pole.
Joseph Casson was treated at the scene by Mascoutah EMS and later airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital, where he later died. David Casson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Small was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Hospital with minor injuries.
Joseph Casson, who serves in the Navy on the USS Tennessee in Georgia, was on leave from duty.
There was specualtion that Small may have been texting when the accident happened, but officials said phone records indicated she was not.
Police said they will continue to investigate the accident to determine if any charges will be filed.
