ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Metro claims it is time for riders to contribute more to the system and it will be raising fares following the approval from the Metro’s board.
The new fares will take effect in July as part of a $250 million operating budget.
“Ridership is up and we are really happy about that. Riders pay a portion of what it takes to run the systems and we as a community pay the rest,” Diane Williams, a Metro official, said.
It has not been determined which fares will be increased and it is possible some fares such as monthly passes or roundtrip tickets may not be affected.
Residents will have a chance to weigh-in on the increased rates during public meetings in April. The meeting dates have not been set yet.
