(KMOV.com) -- With the snow and cold receding across the area, MoDOT is revealing how much money the snow cost the area.
MoDOT said they spent more than $1 million for the most recent winter storm just in the St. Louis district. During a normal winter, MoDOT expects to spend $4.5-$5 million in St. Louis.
Statewide, MoDOT reported it has already spent $30 million this winter and usually expects to spend $42 million for snow removal.
“We had over 500 people and more than 200 trucks working around the clock. That runs up the cost,” said Greg Horn with MoDOT, “It does take a lot of money.”
MoDOT said overtime pay takes a significant portion of the cost.
Horn said residents shouldn’t be concerned about the costs affecting future snow storms and that MoDOT will reallocate resources to make sure there is enough money to keep the roads clear.
“In the big picture, we are low in funds not just for maintenance but for major projects,” Horn said, “But this is our priority, so we’ll get this done.”
MoDOT also said the storm ate up about 60 percent of the local salt supple so officials are hauling salt from northeastern Missouri and order more.
