(KMOV.com) -- A busted water pipe closed down the St. Charles County Old Courthouse late Thursday afternoon.
Officials in St. Charles said just after 5 p.m. the fire alarm went off in the executive office building inside the old courthouse. Officials said a water pipe burst triggered a sensor causing the alarm to sound.
Restoration crews were called into the attic where the burst occurred. Water traveled down from the third to the first floor.
Signs were put up Thursday telling people the building was closed.
Officials said about 30 St. Charles County employees were affected.
“Some moved offices, some worked from home and some are working back in there a little bit today,” said Colene McEntee with St. Charles County, “So it’s a little bit mix of everything.”
Officials said water entered the video production officer where equipment is kept to broadcast St. Charles County Council meetings and there was damage to dry wall and carpeting.
The cost to fix the damage done has not been released.
The building is expected to reopen Friday.
