( – Officials with the Ferguson-Florissant School District, evaluations are underway at Johnson Wabash Elementary School after pipes reportedly ruptured Tuesday.

According to administrators, cold weather caused a sprinkler head to burst, which poured water into classrooms.

The damage is being assessed, and officials are determining whether students will be transferred to another school Wednesday so repairs and clean up can take place.

Parents received this message from the school:

"A sprinkler head burst overnight at Johnson-Wabash Elementary School due to cold weather, causing significant water damage to the school building. We estimate that two-thirds of the facility has some water damage at this time.

Currently, administrators are assessing damage and determining possible alternate locations in which to hold classes when school resumes. We do not know at this time how long students and teachers would be in an alternate location while repairs are being made.

Families will be notified via another telephone notification regarding where school will be held when school resumes as soon as this is determined by school officials."
