( -- The News 4 viewing area is under a Winter Storm Warning through Sunday afternoon. After that expires, a Wind Chill Warning will be in effect from Sunday evening through Tuesday afternoon.

The heaviest snow will likely fall from around 6 a.m. to noon Sunday, with 1 inch per hour rates.”

Combine the accumulation with winds gusting to 35 mph and the result is blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility down to a quarter mile at times. That means near blizzard conditions and some roads may be impassable.

Kristen says the majority of the viewing area is looking at about 6 to10 inches of total snow accumulation with some isolated locations seeing up to a one foot.

Wind chills will be at their coldest Monday and Tuesday morning at 20-30 degrees below zero, says Kristen.

The local National Weather Service says:

With such poor travel conditions and with wind chills plummeting to dangerous levels, anyone that becomes stranded in a vehicle may encounter a life threatening situation. These conditions are very rare for this area so anyone considering travel should not take this weather situation lightly and be certain to take the necessary precautions to stay safe. The best advice is to avoid travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
