Police: Manager of local rental shop forges customer's name

(KMOV) – A manager of a St. Louis County rental shop is accused of forging a customer’s name to rent out an air conditioning unit in June 2012.

David Lee Jones, 53, was charged Dec. 23 with forgery, a felony. His bond was set at $7,500.

According to court documents, Jones was working as manager of Aaron’s Rentals in Overland between June 4 and June 30, 2012 when he rented out the air conditioner in the victim’s name without getting his consent.

Police say Jones handled the paperwork for the rental and had the unit delivered to his house. The delivery drivers told police Jones said the unit was for his pastor and he would deliver it himself.

The victim discovered what happened after the rental company called family members, whom Jones had listed as references.

Jones was arrested and admitted filling forging the paperwork so he could get an air conditioning unit for a friend of his.  He told police he had gotten the victim’s information from the customer database and planned on returning the air conditioner before he was billed for the rental.
