DENVER (AP) -- Albert Pujols has recorded his 181st assist of the season, setting a National League mark for first basemen.
The St. Louis Cardinals slugger eclipsed the record in the fourth inning Sunday against Colorado when he flipped the ball to pitcher Kyle Lohse, who was covering first base on a grounder.
Pujols surpassed the mark held by Mark Grace, who had 180 assists with the Chicago Cubs in 1990.
Bill Buckner holds the major league record with 184 assists in 1985 for the Boston Red Sox.
