Over the last several seasons, when the Illinois and Michigan State hockey teams have hooked up on the ice, penciling the Illini in for a couple of wins has been the safest thing to bet on.
And last season was no exception.
Though Michigan State kept it close in the first of the two-game series, losing by a score of 2-1, the Illini unleashed a scoring frenzy in the second game, as junior forwards Rob Deubel and Daniel Cohen each chipped in a pair of goals in the 8-0 blowout.
When the two clubs kick the season off Friday, Illinois will be looking to run that winning streak up to nine games.
