ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Blues coach Andy Murray uses the St. Louis Rams' previous regime as an example of how not to approach the season opener.
Murray plans to play his regulars in the final two preseason games, unlike the Rams in 2007 and '08 with star running back Steven Jackson. Jackson lost two fumbles in the '07 opener after being coddled in the preseason. In the 2008 opener, he carried for 40 yards and a 2.9-yard average in a 38-3 loss at Philadelphia after sitting out the final two preseason games.
Murray says he's a big believer in using the preseason to get players ready to go.
The Blues play at Minnesota on Thursday and Dallas on Saturday before opening against the Red Wings in Stockholm, Sweden, Oct. 2 and 3.
