As the men's golf team wrapped up play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill., with a disappointing seventh-place finish Sunday, junior Scott Langley found a bright spot on the side of the course - his mother.
"I love to watch every single shot, and I try to get to as many tournaments as I can," Langley's mother, Carol Haas, said. "I've been doing this for a long time, and I still look forward to every time he steps up to the tee block and steps up to the ball. He's such a joy to watch, not only because he has the talent, but because he has the demeanor for the game as well."
The No. 6 Illini were led by Langley's 7-over 217, which was good for a 12th-place tie individually.
But after winning the Invitational in 2008 with then-junior Zach Barlow tying for first individually, the Illini fell off last year's pace in a field of 15 teams.
