You don't have to be shut out on social networks

If you are not in high school or college, the terms Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, MySpace and Second Life may be words you've heard your children or grandchildren use and may be something you'd like to learn more about. SIUE's Leisure Learning Activity, "Introduction to Social Media Tools," explains what these tools are and allows adults to explore this phenomenon referred to as social networking. The activity is just one of several activities offered this year that is designed for adult of all ages to provide opportunities for personal enrichment and leisure learning.

"Introduction to Social Media Tools" is particularly a timely topic right now. "It's a class that allows students to explore and learn the computer skills for social interaction," Assistant Director of Community Education Programs for SIUE's Educational Outreach Cheryl Brunsmann said.

This five week program begins Oct. 28 and meets each Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The participants meet in a computer lab where they get hands-on experience learning about the features of social networking tools.
