CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois starting linebacker Martez Wilson will miss the remainder of the season with a neck injury.
Illinois coach Ron Zook says Wilson will have surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck.
Zook says he feel especially bad for Wilson because he worked hard in the offseason to move from outside linebacker to middle linebacker. He didn't play in Saturday's win over Illinois State.
Wilson says he is upset and frustrated but will start working toward next season, when he will be a senior.
Wilson came to Illinois after being heavily recruited around the country out of Chicago Simeon High School.
In addition to changing positions, Wilson also worked during the off season to come back from a stab wound suffered while helping a friend involved a fight.
