MILWAUKEE (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday left Wednesday's game against Milwaukee with a bruised left knee after he tumbled running on a grounder.
A team spokesman said Holliday was removed for precautionary reasons.
It didn't appear Holliday tripped over Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder or the bag when he broke stride just after the base.
Holliday remained in the game for the third and fourth innings. in the bottom of the third and the fourth innings. Rick Ankiel pinch-hit for Holliday in the fifth.
The NL Central-leading Cardinals came into play Wednesday with a 31-11 mark since Holliday was acquired in a trade with Oakland on July 24.
