EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Two East St. Louis men charged with helping to distribute 2,200 pounds of marijuana have been sentenced to federal prison.
Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Recardo Bonner and 31-year-old Vernon Lowery entered guilty pleas in May to conspiracy to distribute charges.
Bonner has been sentenced to 11 years in prison, with five years supervised release. He's also been fined $875.
Lowery was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison, four years supervised release and a $500 fine.
The two were among 14 people who've been convicted in a multistate marijuana distribution scheme.
Prosecutors say the 14 transported Mexican marijuana from Arizona to Illinois, Missouri and Ohio, where it was given to local distributors.
