(KMOV) -- Two weeks ago, federal prosecutors revealed that a 4-month long undercover crackdown on violent crime had lead to 159 arrests and the seizing of 267 guns.

One of those cases led to indictments against seven metro-east men, including former East St. Louis Chief of Detectives Orlando Ward.

According to documents just filed by prosecutors, an ATF agent posed as a drug distributor for a Mexican cocaine supplier.

Three defendants planned to provide armed security, and detective Ward was allegedly hired “to provide police intelligence information” to help the crooks avoid the cops.

Prosecutors say agents secretly recorded the alleged drug deal that showed the defendants agreeing to buy 10-12 kilos of cocaine, distribute the drugs, then pay off the dealer within two weeks.

In the case involving Detective Ward, the defendants were arrested at an unnamed southern Illinois airport.

Federal agents found four semi-automatic hand guns and 40 rounds of ammunition. Two of the guns had rounds in the chamber.
