(KMOV.com) Every weeknight, Chief Meteorologist Steve Templeton sends you to bed with a "Four Degree Guarantee." Every time the actual high temperature falls within four degrees of his guarantee, KMOV donates $50 to our charity of the month.
This month's charity is the Little Bit Foundation.
"I didn't realize there was such a need 20 minutes from where I lived. I didn't realize children didn't have food, clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, and hygiene items."
Instilling smiles and confidence in kids to feel just like the rest of their classmates is why Rosemary Hanley and a friend started the Little Bit Foundation in 2001.
The non-profit's goal is simple: to help kids feel good about themselves so that they can concentrate and exceed in the classroom.
"It's about making them feel like they are being taken care of and that they are loved."
The Foundation does this by arming the kids and their families with everything they need to accomplish this goal. Socks, shoes, pants, shirts, coats, belts, school supplies and hygiene kits are all essential things that so many kids have trouble gaining access.
"Part of it is [even] showing them what items are and how to use them."
All of the items are new and stored in a warehouse close to downtown St. Louis.
During the school year, more than 100 volunteers put together personal care packages and deliver them to over 4300 students in 16 local schools.
While this is a great accomplishment from the humble beginnings of the foundation, Little Bit Foundation wants to do more. The foundation wants to do a lot more. Currently over 30 additional schools are on a waiting list to be on the receiving end of the foundations program.
News 4 viewers can help the foundation reach their goals and make even more students smile.
