(KMOV) – At least two people were hospitalized after an apparent chlorine leak at Hazelwood East High School in north St. Louis County on Wednesday.

Officials said the leak happened near the pool inside the school in the 11300 block of Dunn Rd. around 10:45 a.m.

Police said several victims were complaining of feeling ill after inhaling the chemical.

Several police vehicle and three ambulances were called to the scene. Two people were transported to the hospital in unknown condition.

The other ambulance was at the scene on standby.

At least a dozen students and staff were forced to evacuate the building.

The cause of the leak was unknown.

Additional details were not immediately available.
