2 More heat-related deaths confirmed in St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The total of heat-related deaths in the St. Louis area rose to 23 on Tuesday after two more were confirmed in the region.

According to officials, 89-year-old Franklin Trumperter was found dead inside his home in the 400 block of Monticello in Ballwin. Police said his central air-conditioner was off and had not been working properly.

Officials said Otha Bowman, 62, was found in an abandoned home in the 1200 block of North 35th Street in East St. Louis. Bowman, a homeless man, was St. Clair County’s first heat-related death.

A total of 23 people have now died in the area since the heat spell began on June 27. St. Louis has seen 17 deaths. St. Louis County has reported three, Madison County has seen two and one has died in St. Clair County.
