ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Warrants have been issued against a man who was caught by an off-duty officer after burglarizing a home in south St. Louis on Tuesday.

Michael Shavers, 57, was charged with first-degree burglary, stealing and resisting arrest.

According to police, Shavers broke into a home in the 6500 block of Loran around 10 p.m.

Police said a 16-year-old girl arrived home and heard unusual noises coming from the second floor. She initially thought it was a family member, but saw Shavers run downstairs and out the front door.

She called 911 and provided police with a description of Shavers.

Police said an off-duty officer heard about the incident and saw Shavers, who matched the suspect’s description.

Police said the officer chased Shavers and eventually caught him. A bag of coins was taken from him and identified as the victim’s.

Shavers was taken into custody, where he remains on $30,000 bond.
