ALTAMONT, Ill. (KMOV) – Two people are charged with armed robbery after they held up a bank in Altamont, Ill. on Tuesday.

Illinois State Patrol charged Annalisa McGhee, 26, and Altonio Graves, 37, with armed robbery and aggravated robbery after the pair allegedly robbed the People’s Bank and Trust.

Police say Graves walked into the bank around 2 p.m. and demanded money. A member of the bank’s staff complied and Graves made it out of the bank with an unknown amount of cash.

A nearby grade school was put on lockdown as the suspect fled in that direction.

Graves ran passed the school and jumped into a vehicle driven by McGhee. The vehicle took off toward Interstate 70.

Police pursued the suspects as they headed into Bond County.  As they crossed over county lines, Bond County deputies put out stop sticks in an effort to disable the suspects’ vehicle.

The suspects reportedly spun out in an attempt to avoid hitting the sticks. Officers were then able to take the suspects into custody.

Authorities say Graves is currently out on probation for a case in Jefferson City.

According to Effingham County Jail officials, more charges could be filed against the pair.
