JUPITER, Fla. – The Cardinals open Grapefruit League play against the Miami Marlins Saturday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium and they’ve got plenty of thunder in their lineup.

Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina and David Freese are all in the Cardinals lineup for the 1:05 ET start against Marlins right-hander John Maine.
Matt Carpenter has worked almost exclusively at second base this spring but he’ll start the opener on the bench. Dan Descalso gets the first start at second base.  The two are among several players battling for playing time there.
Jon Jay will bat leadoff for the Cardinals, who will start fireballer Trevor Rosenthal on the mound. The 22-year-old is competing for the fifth spot in the Cardinals rotation and is expected to throw two innings or about 40 pitches.
Newcomer Ty Wigginton will serve as the designated hitter, Matt Adams will play first base and Pete Kozma will play shortstop. Normal shortstop Rafael Furcal is slowed due to elbow pain and won’t appear in games in the near future.
Scheduled to pitch behind Rosenthal today include prospect Michael Wacha, Marc Rzepczynski, Randy Choate, Eduardo Sanchez, Barret Browning and Victor Marte.
