WELLSTON, Missouri (KMOV) -- With the St. Louis Cardinals' baseball season well underway, conditions are perfect at Busch Stadium. But that's not the case at a baseball field named after one of the team's star players.
Weeds and tall grass would have made it difficult to play baseball at Yadier Molina Field in Wellston. The community baseball park was paid for by the team's charity, Cardinals Care, and formally dedicated last summer.
Baseball teams started practicing on the field Wednesday despite the tall grass.
News 4 asked Wellston's parks department director, Eldright White, when he was going in to mow the grass and have the fields ready for kids to play ball.
White says the field was scheduled to be mowed Friday but that wasn't possible because of the rain. He promises the grass will be cut early next week.
