SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — The Illinois Department of Corrections plans to save money by offering prison inmates brunch on weekends.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that the department plans to serve the combination of breakfast and lunch in most prisons on weekends and holidays instead of serving two separate meals.
Corrections Director Tony Godinez told Illinois House members this week that the move will save about $2.5 million in the upcoming fiscal year.
Godinez says many inmates already skip breakfast and that wastes food and the time of prison kitchen workers.
