Local girl scouts hope to set world record in 'April Showers' campaign

(KMOV.com) -- The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri  will be at every Walmart in the Eastern Missouri region on Saturday asking for personal care item donations in hopes of setting a world record with their collections.

The scouts call it the "April Showers" campaign and the weekend event is named "Showering the Community."  Do not be surprised if you see girl scouts at your neighborhood Walmart wearing rain coats and galoshes.  They will be passing out paper raindrops that list needed items.  They will have barrels available at the store's exit so customers who decide to donate can drop them in as they leave the store.

In addition to standing outside area Walmarts, girls will be distributing bags door-to-door throughout the council's jurisdiction on April 20th, 21st and 22nd.  Residents who receive a bag have until April 28th to fill their bags.  Residents who do not receive a bag have the option to attend the "Showering the Community" event on April 21st or to purchase pre-packaged bags from Schucks and Dierbergs during the week of the event.  Those who are unable to participate or forget to donate during the week of the event may drop off items at any Dierbergs store through May 6th.
