Edwardsville woman charged with breaking into home, beating homeowner

EDWARDSVILLE, Illinois (KMOV) – Edwardsville police say a woman is in custody after she allegedly broke into another woman’s home and beat her on Wednesday.

Karen Malench, 51, was charged with aggravated battery. She remains in custody on a $30,000 bond.

According to police, Malench entered a home in the 100 block of Dunleigh Park Lane around 9 p.m. and began beating a woman who was inside.

Police said Malench then got into her vehicle and fled the scene.

The victim suffered only minor injuries and did not require treatment.
