O'FALLON, Missouri (KMOV.com) -- A 21-year-old man is in the hospital after being shot by a police officer in an O'Fallon mobile home court Wednesday morning.
O'Fallon Police officials said their department received a call around 2 a.m. in reference to a disturbance inside a home in Pin Oak Parc.
When officers arrived on the scene, they were confronted by a man who was not wearing any clothes. According to reports, the man charged one officer and they began to fight. The officer could not subdue the man so the officer had to shoot the suspect.
Police later learned that the man had beaten a 29-year-old woman with some sort of weapon. The O'Fallon Police Chief said if officers had not showed up when they did, the suspect would have likely killed the woman.
Authorities think the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown, but officials report he is stable.
The victim suffered serious injuries from the beating. The O'Fallon Police Chief said she was beaten with some sort of medival weapon.
The officer who fought with the suspect suffered minor injures. He was treated and released.
