BALLWIN, Missouri (KMOV.com) -- A 24-year-old Ballwin woman was arrested after she allegedly falsely reported to police that someone attacked her in her home and stole jewelry.
According to police, officers on Thursday arrested Brittany Rae Harper for filing a false police report.
Police said Harper told them on on April 4 that she returned to her home in the 600 block of Towerwood Drive after walking her dog. and was confronted by a man who forced her to the floor.
According to police, Harper told officers the man held her there until he and another unseen suspect fled the residence with several pieces of jewelry and cash totaling $4,900.
Harper was taken to an area hospital and was later released with no apparent injuries.
Officers with the Ballwin Police Department said they did an extensive canvas of the area, but no one reported hearing or seeing anything or anyone suspicious in the area.
Police said Harper called them on April 5 and reported seeing a suspicious person walking near her home. She told officers the subject looked like the person who had assaulted her.
Detectives interviewed Harper and were able to come up with a composite sketch based on her description.
Further investigation revealed that the stolen jewelry had been sold to a scrap dealer. The dealer was provided photographs of the jewelry and the driver's license of the seller. Through the photographs, the jewelry was positively identified by the homeowner, Harper's mother.
The driver's license showed seller was Brittany Rae Harper.
Harper was interrogated and confessed to selling the jewelry to obtain money for her out-of-state boyfriend.
