(KMOV) -- More and more women are turning to guns for personal protection, according to gun shop owners.
At Ultimate Defense in St Peters there has been a surge in women buying guns so that now over 40 percent of their business is from women. The shooting now holds ladies' nights regularly.
"What made me get involved is the crime rate going up," Tina Louis Gibbs of St Charles said. "I feel it's very important nowadays for women to learn how to protect themselves and their families."
St Charles County Sheriff's officials do not track gender of concealed carry applicants, but a spokesman says they are seeing more female applicants.
