ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Teen birth rates in the City of St. Louis are following a declining national trend.
The teen birth rate in St. Louis has dropped 50 percent between 1991 and 2009. Nationally, birth rates declined by 44 percent between 1991 and 2010.
Health officials credit the decline to strategic outreach efforts to middle and high school-aged children about the negative impacts of teenage pregnancy.
Officials encourage parents and guardians to talk to their children at an early age about the risks of teenage sex and the responsibilities of parenthood.
