ST. LOUIS -- A downtown St. Louis block closed after a steam pipe burst last week is reopening.

Officials say workers have cleaned asbestos fibers that resulted from the pipe break last week. Lucas Avenue and a section of North 11th Street are open again near the America's Center convention center.

The pipe broke last Thursday, sending a plume of steam four stories above downtown. No one was hurt, but some of the asbestos fiber insulation surrounding the pipe blew into the air. However, air monitoring has found no airborne asbestos.

A section of 11th Street will remain closed until the broken pipe is repaired. That could take another week to 10 days.
