CASEYVILLE, Illinois (KMOV.com) -- Firefighters are calling a house fire that broke in Caseyville, Illinois Wednesday morning suspicious.
Authorities said they responded to a fire at 29 Hadfield Drive around 11:15 a.m.
By the time firefighters arrived, the house was already engulfed in flames.
Neighbors said they heard loud popping noises and came out to see the flames. The house has been empty and unlocked for a year, which worried neighbors that it could attract vagrants or teens looking for a place to party.
French Village Fire Chief Al LaPointe said it is too early to determine the cause of the fire. The Illinois Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate because of the suspicious nature of the fire.
