ST. CHARLES, Missouri – A former co-owner of one of the nation’s biggest marketers of auto service contracts pleaded guilty to federal charges on Monday, just days after pleading guilty to Missouri charges of theft and fraud, the United States Attorney’s Office announced.
Darain Atkinson pled guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and filing false tax returns.
Darain Atkinson and his brother, Cory, owned Wentzville-based US Fidelis, which collapsed in 2009 amid allegations of consumer fraud. Federal prosecutors say they used company funds for luxury homes and vehicles.
On Thursday, Darain Atkinson pleaded guilty in St. Charles County Circuit Court to state charges of fraud and stealing consumer refunds. Cory Atkinson faces trial Sept. 4 in state court.
Darain Atkinson faces up to eight years in prison and fines of up to $500,000. Hi sentencing hearing has been set for July 12.
