(KMOV) – All lanes of eastbound Interstate 64 were closed after a crane barge collided with the Boone Bridge  in Chesterfield on Friday.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed at Route K as crews worked to remove the crane, which broke free on the Missouri River and came to rest on the eastbound truss of the Daniel Boone Missouri River Bridge.

The entrance ramps to Route 94, Route K and Research Park were also closed.

After the crane is removed, the bridge and interstate will remain closed until it is inspected for damage.

The bridge carries traffic from St. Charles County into St. Louis County. Drivers were urged to use alternative routes such as Interstate 70 or Highway 364.
