(Baseball StL) -- On Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals will happily trot out their ace Adam Wainwright in the season's first series against Central Division foe, Cincinnati Reds.
During the Grapefruit season, Wainwright has pitched more than 15 scoreless innings making manager Mike Matheny's decision to start the Georgia native easy.
"It was a good way to end (spring training)," Wainwright said. "I'm very comfortable working both sides of the plate with several different pitches. I just feel good out there."
On the other side, the Reds new manager Bryan Price will send out Johnny Cueto, who has had to sort through a series of minor injuries, including a tender right shoulder, before being named to his third consecutive Opening Day starting spot. Cueto missed one start this spring because of soreness.
“I can’t imagine how some of the other guys feel but for me I can’t wait,” Kolten Wong said. “It’s been a long time coming and I just want to get out of (Florida) and get to Cincinnati and start getting it going.”
