(KMOV) -- Detectives with the St. Louis County Child Abuse Unit said two people “not equipped to raise a child” are accused of abusing a seven-month-old infant.
According to court documents, Trianna Simms, 23, and Derrion Baker, 20, admitted to squeezing, jerking and striking the infant in their Spanish Lake house between September and October of 2013.
Simms is accused of fracturing the infant’s tibia by squeezing and jerking on the child’s legs. According to authorities, Baker is accused of shoving a pacifier into the child’s mouth and pushed on his ribs causing them to fracture under pressure.
Police say when Simms took the baby to the hospital, the child was bleeding at the month. Hospital officials determined the boy’s bruises and broken bones were a result of an accident.
"This was a forceful yank," said Detective Brett Belcher. "We talked to mom and she admitted to hearing a pop at one point."
Both Simms and Baker are being sought by authorities and face charges of child abuse. If convicted, they each could serve up to seven years in prison.
The infant is in state custody.
