(KMOV) – Police have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his ex-wife and led police on a high-speed chase through parts of the Metro-East on Thursday.

According to sources, the suspect stabbed his ex-wife in the parking lot of Illinois Eye Surgeons in the 3900 block of N. Illinois in Swansea sometime Thursday. Police said the victim has worked as a technician at the business for the past two years.

Sources told News 4 she had a restraining order against him at the time of the attack. One witness said he was chased away by a doctor wielding a brick.

The suspect then reportedly fled the scene in a white Nissan Versa.  He was soon spotted by police and a pursuit began.

The chase made its way from Swansea into Clinton County, where it ended on Interstate 64 east of Illinois Rte. 160.

That’s where the suspect was arrested and taken into custody. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police said at some points, vehicles involved in the chase reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The victim was transported to a St. Louis hospital in unknown condition.
