BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – Two people were killed after a college student from Belleville struck a truck head-on near Joplin Wednesday evening.

Police said 22-year-old Brandon Stuckey was driving on Route HH near County Road 175 around 5:30 p.m. when he crossed over the center line.

Authorities said that’s when Stuckey hit a GMC Sierra driven by 48-year-old Julie Cartwright head on.  Cartwright’s newborn son, who was in the back seat of the vehicle, was buckled properly in his safety seat.

Authorities say Stuckey and Julie Cartwright were pronounced dead at the scene. Her infant grandon, Hayvan, was not injured in the wreck.

Stuckey was a student at Ozark Christian College in Joplin.

Police said initial reports indicated weather and visibility were not a factor in the wreck. Toxicology tests and an autopsy were scheduled to be performed to determine the exact cause.
