(HockeySTL) – Blues forward Vladamir Tarasenko on Monday was named NHL Rookie of the Month for January.

The Russian led all rookies in scoring, finishing with five goals and four assists in seven games.

He edged out Tampa Bay Lightning center Cory Conacher, Edmonton Oilers center Neil Yakupov, Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz and Montreal Canadience center Alex Galchenyuk.

Tarasenko, 21, became just the second player in team history to score two goals in his first game when he debuted in a 6-0 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Jan 19. Doug Palazzari was the first to accomplish the feat when he started with the Blues in 1974-1975.

Tarasenko scored a goal and had two assists in a 4-3 shootout win over Nashville on Jan. 21, becoming the first player since Wayne Babych in 1978-1979 to score five points in his first two NHL games.

He ended the month on a four-game scoring streak, notching his fifth goal of the season in a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.
