VIERA, Fla. (KMOV) – Adam Wainwright will make his fourth start of the spring today (and second in Viera) when the Cardinals take on the Washington Nationals at Space Coast Stadium.

Wainwright hopes to build off his last outing, when he struck out six in five scoreless innings pitched.

Albert Pujols, Brendan Ryan, and Colby Rasmus are all absent from today’s starting lineups. Cardinals skipper Tony La Russa said he decided to keep Pujols from making the trip to Viera so he could play Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Rasmus, who was scratched just before gametime yesterday because of a bruise on his leg from being cleated, will also start today's game on the bench for precautionary reasons.

La Russa also decided to keep catcher Jason Larue back in Jupiter. With Yadier Molina already out due to a right oblique injury, Matt Pagnozzi will get the start at catcher today against the Nationals.

The Cardinals lineup will face pitcher John Lannan, who they have already played against once this spring. The Nationals ace has had a good spring on the mound, allowing three earned runs in eleven innings pitched for an ERA of 2.45.
