On Wednesday night Belleville City leaders voted to cut an extra three hundred thousand dollars from the budget. Nearly 50 percent of those cuts will come from layoffs of city employees. In all, three city employees will lose their jobs. Those changes should save the city more than 159 thousand dollars. The other savings will come from early retirements and an agreement between the cities two unions to not increase pay checks next year. The city’s alderman also voted tonight to create a 7 member city audit committee to take a closer look at the city’s finances.
