Police find car taken during Sauget carjacking

(KMOV)-- Police have located the car taken during a carjacking and murder in Sauget, IL.

The 2002 gold Chevy Impala was located in the 800 block of Gustav in St. Louis. Police are still looking for a "persons of interest" in the case.

Martin Lampe of Maplewood was shot during the carjacking at the Convenience Store on Route 3 in Sauget.

Police said the suspect shot 23-year-old Lampe, stole his car, and took off toward St. Louis around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. He died after having surgery to remove a bullet from his stomach.

Police said the victim was waiting inside a running car just feet from the Convenience Store's liquor window. The suspect then came up to the car, shot the man inside, and took off in the car.

According to police, nearly 10 people saw it happen.

The Major Case Squad recently turned over surveillance video that might help identify "persons of interest."
